Mission Texas Houston Served Jul 1995 - Jan 1997 Presidents Eugene H. Findlay,Bruce F. Sorensen Comment I have been home some time now. I served eleven months with my trainer. Sherri Kellogg. Now Sherri Long. I am a school teacher in Sacramento and love the work which my mission inspired. I am currently keeping up with the language. (Cambodian) We just got Cambodian Elders in Sacramento in July of 1999. Truly an answer to prayer. I have been helping the small group of Cambodian members in a stake near my home. I am planning my first trip to Cambodia in June of 2003 and hope to see how well I get by with the language. :) I just started learning Hmong and I am loving it so far but I have only had one class. :P I am still single and not dating anyone. :( We just got one of the few Sister missionaries from Cambodia serving here in Sacramento. We do a lot of visiting teaching together and other missionary work. She is Sister Lakana Sien. We have had about, I want to say over 50 baptism since July of 1999. With retention that equals about 20 to church every week or so. I teach the Relief Society class. It was hard at first, without a book in the language, but now I just use the English book and we us the Cambodian Translated scriptures. It is wonderful! I love Relief Society. (They have a book but for some reason I just got the Cami version just a month ago from Sister Sien.) We have had Se, Moun and Tiv, Sokhon receive their endowment in October. They are the first Cambodians to receive their endowment in Sacramento. They are trail blazers in their community. Se, Moun is female and very old (70) and Sokhon is a man, middle aged. I was able to be one of Se, Moun's escorts with Sister Sien in the Oakland Temple. The sister who helped Se, Moun was the same sister who helped me when I received my own endowment in June of 1994. Being there with Se, Moun was a highlight of my life. Sokhon and I have gone back to the temple since and the next time we went they asked him to be one of the witnesses. He didn't know what to do but he was so cute and managed fine. Sokhon teaches the Gospel Essentials class and it is a real hit with the Cambodians he is so funny. He always makes learning so much fun. That is about it only that my mission was one of the key events in my life and I loved it very much.
